Crews fight nearly 50-acre fire near Loris; 1 structure damaged, Horry County officials say

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Horry County firefighters were called out Friday morning to battle a “slow-moving” nearly 50-acre fire that authorities said damaged one structure in the Loris area.

Horry County Fire Rescue was dispatched at 9:16 a.m. to the area of Airport Road and Ampere Road near the North Carolina border. Authorities said the fire was composed of several smaller spot fires.

It’s unclear when or how the fire startesd. No additional structures were threatened, HCFR said.

Officials said they expect smoke from the fire to remain visible for an extended period. The South Carolina Forestry Commission and the Loris Fire Department assisted.
