Crews Install Temporary Bridge in Lafitte, Louisiana

Crews worked to install a floating bridge in Lafitte, Louisiana, after the existing swing bridge was destroyed during Hurricane Ida days before, officials said.

Lafitte Mayor Tim Kerner Jr shared video on Facebook demonstrating a piece of the bridge unfolding in the water during the installation process on Monday, September 6.

The mayor said the ferry would be closed Tuesday to “expedite” construction of the bridge. He said the bridge would be ready for residents by Wednesday morning.

The Leo Kerner Swing Bridge in Lafitte was struck by a barge as the storm made landfall on August 29, local reports said. The new floating bridge would allow police and fire services to access the Barataria side of the waterway, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said on Facebook. Credit: Tim Kerner Jr via Storyful
