Crews Find Remains of Four Additional Surfside Collapse Victims

The official death toll from the partial collapse of the Champlain Towers South condo in Surfside, Florida, rose to 32 on July 6, as teams working at the site recovered the remains of four additional victims.

The still-standing portions of the condo were brought down on Sunday ahead of Tropical Storm Elsa’s arrival in Florida. The storm has thus far mostly impacted the west coast of Florida.

According to the officials, the demolition made it easier to find victims’ bodies. As of July 6, 26 of the 32 confirmed dead have been identified. A further 113 people remain unaccounted for, though Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said that only “around 70” of those individuals were confirmed as being in Champlain Towers South when it collapsed during the early hours of June 24.
