Crews rescue woman in the woods in Lebanon

Jan. 18—LEBANON — The Lebanon Volunteer Fire Department helped rescue a woman who slipped and fell in the woods Sunday.

The incident served as a reminder of the unique obstacles responders in small, rural towns must be prepared to deal with.

At 1:39 p.m., the LVFD was dispatched to Burnham Road for a person down in the woods approximately 300 yards off the road.

LVFD units responded to the scene and made contact with the victim.

Lebanon Fire Chief Jay Schall said Monday the victim's injuries were minor, however she was unable to walk out of the woods.

A rescue response was requested bringing the Rescue 106, Service 106 and UTV 106 rescue apparatuses to the scene.

The fire department's units packaged the victim into a "Stokes basket" and carried her to an awaiting ambulance.

The victim was then transported to Manchester Memorial Hospital along with a Windham Community Memorial Hospital paramedic.

Schall noted, thankfully, the victim was accompanied by a partner, who called the fire department when she slipped and fell.

" It's important that if you're hiking out in the woods or going for a walk, you're with somebody or you're carrying a cellphone so that you can alert the authorities if something were to happen," he said.

Schall commended his firefighters for their work helping the victim.

" Excellent work by our LVFD volunteers!!," he said on the department's Facebook page.
