Crews respond to fire at former Nash school in northeast North Dakota

Sep. 11—NASH, N.D. — Crews spent more than five hours at a fire of a former northeast North Dakota school building in the early hours of Sunday, Sept. 11.

The Grafton Volunteer Fire Department responded around 12:37 a.m. Sunday to a structure fire at the former Nash School in Nash, North Dakota. According to a Facebook post from the department, 13 members of GVFD responded and were on scene for five-and-a-half hours.

Other responding agencies included Hoople Fire Department, St. Thomas Fire Department, Valley Ambulance Rescue Service, Walsh County Sheriff's Office, North Dakota Game and Fish Department, Walsh Rural Water District and Nodak Rural Electric Cooperative.

The scene continues to be monitored for rekindling, the department said.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.

The Nash school closed after the 2008-2009 school year, according to Herald archives. It had been around since 1957. The school closed due to dwindling attendance.

Nash is an unincorporated community about 8 miles northwest of Grafton. The town is about 49 miles northwest of Grand Forks.
