Crews respond to West Jordan for unusual natural gas smell

WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC4) — A brief shelter-in-place was ordered in West Jordan as crews responded to reports of a “natural gas smell” in the area of 9000 South and 4800 West.

Public Safety crews and workers from Dominion Energy responded to the scene and worked collaboratively to gather information and investigate the smell, saying public safety was the top priority.

By 10:30 a.m., West Jordan City officials said public safety crews and Dominion Energy workers were unable to detect a gas leak in the area and there was no reason to believe there is a health threat to the public.

“It’s important to note that low levels of natural gas are not toxic,” said West Jordan City in a public service announcement. “The odor of natural gas is added so individuals can detect even small natural gas leaks by odor.”

This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post with more information as it becomes available.
