Firefighter taken to hospital, roof collapses in raging blaze that tore through Norton home

A firefighter was taken to the hospital and the roof of a large home collapsed after a raging blaze broke out in Norton on Tuesday.

Crews responding to a report of a fire at 3 Carlton Drive just before 6 p.m. found flames showing on multiple floors of a 6,000-square-foot home, according to the Norton Fire Department.

The flames then extended to the attic and all firefighters were ordered out of the home after the rear of the roof collapsed.

The fire was eventually brought under control by 10 p.m.

Two people and their pets were able to escape to safety.

One Norton firefighter was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro for treatment of a minor hand injury. He was released and returned to duty.

Firefighters from Attleboro, Easton, Mansfield, Raynham, and Rehoboth assisted Norton crews at the scene.

A fire and explosion unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office are assisting Norton fire officials with an investigation.
