Crews searching for 2 possible drowning victims in separate Cobb incidents

Crews in Cobb County are searching for two people who may have drowned Friday night in separate incidents.

According to Acworth police, witnesses reported seeing a 46-year-old Rockmart woman on a raft in the Cauble Park lake at 5 p.m. A short time later, they saw the same raft, but the woman wasn’t on it.

Crews searched for the woman until 11:30 p.m. and then began their search again Saturday morning. She has not yet been found.

According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, a 27-year-old man tried to swim across the Chattahoochee River to a popular diving rock at 8 p.m. He was unable to stay above the water and started to go under.

His sister tried rescuing him, but was unable to stay above water as well and had to break contact.

Cobb County fire crews and DNR game wardens searched for him until nightfall and they began their search again Saturday morning. He has not yet been found.
