Crews tame 2-alarm fire to Douglas home under renovation

DOUGLAS — Several area departments provided mutual aid to a two-alarm fire Saturday night at 55 Walnut St.

Douglas firefighters arrived at 8:29 p.m. to find the second floor of the vacant single-family home under renovation on fire.

Due to the home's location outside of the hydrant district, crews struck a second alarm for tankers, prompting mutual aid companies from Uxbridge, Northbridge, Webster, Dudley, Oxford and Pascoag, Rhode Island, to arrive on scene and assist.

Firefighters ventilated the roof and managed to bring the fire under control in about 25 minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the District 7 Fire Investigation Unit and the state Fire Marshall’s Office.

There were no reported injuries.
