After locating the man, crews deployed a turtle tube to help stabilize and secure him. Corn was then removed from around the man, according to officials.

First responders said a vacuum truck was then called in to help move corn from the bin so the man could be removed through the bin’s access door. EMS workers assessed the man and eventually released him.

Officials said on July 7, 2012, a 5-year-old child died in a grain bin also located in Ethridge. Since then, first responders have undergone specialized training in grain bin rescues.
