PETOSKEY — The Crooked Tree Arts Center is kicking off its 2022 performing arts series today — Saturday, Jan. 8 — with a special in-person performance and concert with Michigan's own jazz ensemble Third Coast Swing.

Third Coast Swing is heavily influenced by the music of late Belgian born and French guitarist Django Reinhardt and his band The Hot Club of Paris. The jazz ensemble takes influence from the band and uses it to shape their own styles of gypsy swing, bolero, jazz and more.

"Even though they're a regional band, they've never played at the arts center before and we are excited to welcome them in for a great evening concert," said arts center events coordinator Andi Symonds. "They are guaranteed to get you dancing in your seat or even up out of your seat."

The Ludington based ensemble will be headed to Northern Michigan after a string of shows in their hometown on Thursday, Grand Rapids on Friday and ending their weekend at the arts center on Saturday night.

Third Coast Swing will also be accompanied by two other musicians for their upcoming concert with Ella Jarvis joining on vocals and Eric McIntyre on an array of instruments.

"It should really be an amazing jazz concert and we are excited to be hosting the band and to be having some live music back in general again," said Symonds.

"Our concerts are also typically on Fridays so we hope people make an evening out of it and maybe grab some dinner downtown before coming to enjoy the show with us," she said.

Tickets for the upcoming concert are on sale and are $25 for arts center members, $35 for non-members and $10 for students. However, you can save $5 on your ticket by filling out an arts center survey on its next performing arts series. The survey and tickets can be found online at www.crookedtree.org.

The arts center does also have COVID-19 protocols in place for its shows and, by purchasing a ticket, ticket holders acknowledge the risk of possible exposure to COVID-19.

By attending an event patrons also acknowledge their consent to abide by current safety protocols put in place by the arts center at the time of the show.

More information about the upcoming show, tickets and future programming can all be found on the arts center's website at www.crookedtree.org.
