Cross country regionals: St. Johns boys and girls capture Division 2 titles

Joey Bowman collected another title.

And he helped the St. Johns boys cross country team add to its collection of championships.

Two weeks after winning the Greater Lansing Championships, the Redwings captured a Division 2 regional championship at DeWitt on Saturday.

St. Johns had 60 points and finished 52 ahead of runner-up Mason. Corunna was third with 116 points.

Bowman led the Redwings’ success and was the regional champion with a time of 15:40.6. He was among three runners to finish in the top 10 for St. Johns, which had Isaac Staib take fifth and Tyler Dohm place eighth.

Haslett’s Nate Carmody was the regional runner-up with a time of 15:57.0, while DeWitt’s Nolan Inglis was third and Williamston’s Camden Johnecheck placed fourth.

DIVISION 4 AT DEWITT

Parks Allen was the regional champion and among four runners to finish in the top 10 for Ithaca as it claimed a regional title.

Allen had a time of 15:37.4 and was more than a minute faster than runner-up Collin Farmer of Pewamo-Westphalia.

Landen Syka was third, Miingen Bertrand was seventh and Lane McDonald took eighth for Ithaca, which has a score of 38.

P-W was the runner-up with 59 points and Bath had a score of 102 to take third.

Luke Skidmore was ninth and Carter Holmes took 10th for Bath.

DIVISION 3 AT BRIGHTON            

Stockbridge had three runners finish in the top 10 while finishing as the regional champion Friday. Collin Cook was third, wile Micah Bolton took fifth and Ethan Wright placed 10th to lead the Panthers, who had 60 points.

Dansville swept the top two spots while taking fourth. Sophomore Theodore Davis was the champion with a time of 16:39.3 for the Aggies, while Sammy Schmidt took second.

DIVISION 4 AT WEBBERVILLE

Host Webberville took third with 89 points at this regional Friday. Caleb Howard was fourth to lead the Spartans, who were a point behind runner-up Novi Christian Academy. Liam Wilder was 12th and Drew Pickens finished 20th for Webberville.

Carson City-Crystal finished fourth as a team and was led by freshman Kristian Coon, who was fifth.

Other area top 10 individuals included Portland St. Patrick freshman Timothy Chamberlain (sixth) and Fowler's Trevor Feldpausch (ninth).

DIVISION 3 AT ALLENDALE

Junior Nathan Day placed fourth individually while leading Saranac to a runner-up finish Saturday.

Saranac had a score of 88 and was 16 points behind champion Grand Rapids Covenant Christian.

Day finished with a time of 16:37.61, while Elijah Powell was 17th and Hunter Helminski placed 20th.

DIVISION 3 AT NAPOLEON

Leslie was third at this regional Friday with 116 points.

Senior Cameron Pierce was the individual runner-up with a time of 16:31.7 to lead Leslie. Ethan Lubahn was 17th for the Blackhawks.

DIVISION 1 AT SHEPHERD

Okemos finished fourth and East Lansing was fifth to lead area teams at Friday’s regional

Nathan Wilkinson finished 15th and Ian Morgan was 16th to lead Okemos.

East Lansing was led by Eden Lampi, who placed 17th.

DIVISION 2 AT DEWITT

Junior Clara Fletcher was the individual champion while leading St. Johns to a regional title Saturday morning. Fletcher was among three runners to place in the top 11 for the Redwings and had a winning time of 18:42.5 – 13 seconds ahead of runner-up Meghan Ford of Mason.

Abby Young was fourth and Miriiam Kloha took 11th for St. Johns., which had 57 points.

Williamston was second with 64 and Owosso third with 77.

Nicole Schafer was third and Jaiden Griffith took sixth to lead Williamston.

DeWitt’s Kayla Williams rounded out the top individuals and took fifth. Libby Summerland was seventh and Josie Jenkinson took eighth to lead Owosso’s strong showing.

DIVISION 3 AT DEWITT

Lansing Catholic swept the top three spots, but it was Pewamo-Westphalia that prevailed as the regional champion.

P-W had five runners finish in the top nine while finishing with 34 points and edging the Cougars by eight.

Whitney Werner led the finishers for P-W and was fourth, while Ella Kowatch (sixth), Abby Arens (seventh), Hayden Hengesbach (eighth) and Emma Wittenbach (ninth) rounded out the top placers.

Lansing Catholic’s Hannah Pricco was the regional champion in 18:15.9 and led a one-two-three finish. CC Jones was second in 18:35.6 and Tessa Roe took third for the Cougars.

Ithaca’s Liliana Lehnst was fifth and helped the Yellowjackets place third as a team.

DIVISION 1 AT SHEPHERD

Okemos had two runners finish in the top 10 while capturing a regional championship at Shepherd on Friday.

Junior Shannon Gillahan was fifth with a time of 18:43.0 to to lead Okemos, which had 68 points. Lily Salazar was seventh for the Wolves.

Okemos also had Nicole Mays place 15t h and Bryna Mead-O’Brien take 20 th while punching a ticket to the state finals.

Grand Ledge’s Taylor Pangburn was the top area finisher and placed second with a time of 18:13.7. She finished just behind champion Victoria Garces of Midland Dow. Garces had a time of 18:22.9.

Holt’s Lauren Walker was third and Emma Netzel was fourth.

DIVISION 3 AT BRIGHTON

Freshman JayLee Chapman was among three runners to finish in the top 10 for Stockbridge, which tied University Liggett for first with 47 points at Friday’s regional. Chapman was third in 21:18.0, while Ava Vaccaro finished fifth and Anna Ransom took ninth for Stockbridge.

Dansville’s Rebekah Hallock was fourth.

DIVISION 3 AT NAPOLEON

Leslie had three runners finish in the top 10 while finishing as the regional runner-up Friday with 61 points. The Blackhawks were nine points behind champion Jackson Lumen Christi.

Erin Lubahn was sixth to lead the finishers for Leslie with a time of 19:48.3. Jaidyn Smith was eighth and Hailey Creisher took ninth for the Blackhawks.

Savannah Arnett was 15th for Leslie.

DIVISION 4 AT WEBBERVILLE

Fowler had three runners finish in the top 20 while taking third at Friday’s regional. Kelcie Pung was 10 th to lead the finishers for Fowler, which had 130 points.

Grace Piggott was 16th and Grace O’Hare placed 19th for Fowler

Lansing Christian’s Ashlyn Kephart was the top area finisher and was the runner-up with a time of 20:10.48.

Portland St. Patrick senior Cozette Brown finished ninth.

DIVISION 3 AT ALLENDALE

Senior Madeleine Hill was fourth with a time of 18:58.56 to lead Saranac at Saturday’s regional. Alyssa Possehn was 17th for Saranac, which finished seventh in the team standings.
