Cross country state finals: Pewamo-Westphalia, Lansing Catholic girls shine in Division 3

Lansing Catholic got another strong showing from its three star runners.

And that helped the Cougars finish among the state’s top teams.

Senior Hannah Pricco was the individual runner-up while helping Lansing Catholic finish third as a team at the Division 3 state finals at Michigan International Speedway.

Pewamo-Westphalia led the team finishers in Greater Lansing and was the state runner-up with 142 points. Lansing Catholic was third with a score of 165.

Traverse City St. Francis was the team champion with 134 points.

Pricco had a time of 18:17.59 and was among three runners to finish in the top 10 for the Cougars. Senior CC Jones was sixth in 18:44.24, while Tessa Roe was 10th In 19:14.05.

Sophomore Whitney Werner finished 13th to lead P-W as the lone all-state runner. The Pirates also got strong finishes from seniors Abby Arens and Ella Kowatch.

Saranac senior Madeleine Hill and Ithaca junior Liliana Lehnst were the other area all-state runners. Hill placed 19th in 19:27.48 and Lehnst took 23rd in 19:32.84.

DIVISION 2

St. Johns junior Clara Fletcher finished 13th to lead the performances by area runners in Division 2. Fletcher had a time of 18:56.75 and was among two Redwing runners to have all-state finishes Saturday. Junior Abby Young also was all-state and was 24th for the Redwings, who took ninth with 280 points to have the top team finish in the area.

Mason’s Meghan Ford earned all-state status for a third straight season, finishing 20th in 19:10.18.

Williamston was 11th, Owosso took 14th and Alma was 15th as a team.

Jaden Griffith was 31st and Nicole Schafer was 32nd to lead Williamston.

Owosso was led by junior Libby Summerland, who placed 44th. Sophomore Joy Evans took 49th to lead Alma.

DIVISION 1

Okemos junior Shannon Gillahan just missed out on all-state status and led the area finishers in Division 1. Gillahan was 32nd individually with a time of 19:02.50 while help Okemos finish 14th as a team.

Holt sophomore Lauren Walker finished 34th, Grand Ledge senior Taylor Pangburn was 47th and Holt senior Emma Netzel placed 54th to lead the other area performers.

DIVISION 4

Lansing Christian senior Ashlyn Kephart finished 23rd and was the only all-state finisher from the area in Division 4. Kephart had a time of 20:32.54.

Fowler was 27th as a team and was paced by Kelcie Pung, who took 68th.

BOYS

DIVISION 2

Joey Bowman capped his career with another all-state finish while helping St. Johns to a top-10 team finish.

Bowman was eighth individually with a time of 15:52.41 to lead the Redwings, who totaled 273 points while finishing ninth.

Senior Tyler Dohm was also all-state for St. Johns and took 22nd in 16:15.14.

Williamston’s Camden Johnecheck and Haslett’s Nate Carmody were the other all-state runners in Division 2. Johnecheck took 20th and had a time of 16:13.71, while Carmody was 23rd in 16:16.03.

DeWitt’s Nolan Inglis just missed all-state status and was 31st.

Alma was 21st, Mason took 22nd and Corunna finished 27th in the team standings.

DIVISION 3

Parks Allen was third overall while helping Ithaca lead the team finishers in Division 3. Allen had a time of 15:52.17 and helped the Yellowjackets take eighth as a team with a score of 283.

Saranac was 11th, Pewamo-Westphalia took 12th and Leslie was 17th as a team.

Dansville’s Theodore Davis was the other top-10 finisher, taking 10th in 16:26.21.

Leslie’s Cameron Pierce, P-W’s Collin Farmer and Saranac’s Nathan Day also were all-state. Pierce took 20th in 16:37.26, Farmer was 26th in 16:42.06 and Day placed 30th in 16:51.88.

Bath was 21st as a team and paced by junior Carter Holmes, who was 50th.

Collin Cook finished 49th while leading Stockbridge as it finished 23rd in the team standings.

DIVISION 4

Potterville senior Logan Cooper capped his career with all-state honors after finishing 22nd with a time of 17:13.33.

Portland St. Patrick freshman Timothy Chamberlain was the area’s next best finisher and took 42nd.

Webberville finished 25th in the team standings.
