CROSS COUNTY: Local runners bring home plenty of hardware from regional meet

The trek down I-35, or Hwy 281, to Round Roack is going to be filled with vans from schools surrounding the Wichita Falls area next week.

Cross-country runners from Holliday, Windthorst, Iowa Park, Nocona, Graham, Quanah, Munday, Knox City, Gold-Burg, Midway, Bellevue and Prairie Valley are among those who qualified for the UIL State Cross Country Meet held at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock on Nov. 4 and 5.

Among those who qualified were numerous regional gold-medal winners from Archer County, including the Holliday boys and girls teams.

The Eagles and Lady Eagles stood at the top of their respective medal platforms after winning the Region I-3A Meet at Mae Simmons Park.

The Holliday boys won gold with a low-score of 116, buoyed by a first-place overall finish by freshman Noah Strohman, who paced the field with a 15:42.8 mark over the 5,000-meter course. Strohman’s twin brother, Ryder, placed seventh at 16:46.1.

Other Lady Eagles headed to Round Rock are Jaci Shepherd, Briar Griffin, Bailee Bowers, Addisyn Scott and Hadley Vicars.
