Crowd boos PM Johnson as he resigns

STORY: Johnson's resignation as leader of the Conservative Party came after he was abandoned by lawmakers who said he was no longer fit to govern.

There had been so many ministerial resignations that the government faced paralysis.

Johnson said he would remain as Prime Minister until autumn, while the Conservatives elect a new leader, a process which could take about two months.

Many of his own lawmakers have called for him to step down immediately while an interim leader takes charge.
