Crowd Gathers at Hong Kong Court as 47 Charged Under National Security Law

Forty-seven pro-democracy activists charged under Beijing’s controversial national security law appeared in court in Hong Kong on March 1, attracting crowds of supporters who were warned and dispersed by police.

Those charged included former lawmakers, the South China Morning post said.

They were arrested, the paper said, for their part in an unofficial primary runoff election, which authorities say was an attempt to subvert state power. Credit: Phoebe King via Storyful
