The Crown’s Emma Corrin joins Deadpool 3 in the villain role

The Crown star Emma Corrin has joined the cast for Deadpool 3, with the actor attached to play the movie’s villain.

As reported by Deadline, the actor, who played Princess Diana of Wales in the fourth season of the Netflix show, will face off against Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the superhero movie.

The identity of Corrin’s character and their motivations have been kept under wraps, but they are sure to pack a punch given their breakout success in the last few years.

As well as The Crown, Corrin has appeared in My Policeman and Lady Chatterley’s Lover, with upcoming roles this year including the lead in murder-mystery series Retreat.

Reynolds announced the casting via his social media accounts, writing on Twitter: “New addition to the family! The Deadpool family, for clarity. Which is just like a real family except with less swearing… Welcome, Emma Corrin!”

Reynolds previously explained how the film will incorporate Jackman’s Wolverine, revealing that the Marvel film would “protect the legacy” of Logan.

“We’ve figured out a way to do it that’s Hugh Jackman-approved and Kevin Feige-approved where we’re completely protecting the legacy of Logan the way it was left off,” he said. “I wouldn’t mess with that. I’m really excited.”

Though it won’t be hitting screens any time soon given its late 2024 release date, director Shawn Levy did update fans on the development of the project, saying: “We are writing, rewriting, developing, prepping Deadpool every day now.

“It is such a blast to laugh every day. It is so delicious to hear and write and come up with these scenes where people are just talking foul,” he continued. “And the violence is in your face and hardcore – it's very much a Deadpool movie. Developing [it] is one of the most fun creative experiences of my life.”

Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are streaming on Disney+, and also available on digital download, DVD and Blu-ray. Deadpool 3, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, has a release date of September 6, 2024. The Crown seasons 1-5 are streaming on Netflix. Seasons 1-4 are also available on DVD and Blu-ray.
