Apple TV+ have teased a first look at The Crown star Tobias Menzies in new true-crime drama Manhunt.

The seven-part series will premiere on the streaming platform on March 15, 2024.

Menzies, best known for playing Prince Philip alongside Olivia Colman's Queen Elizabeth II in series three and four of The Crown, leads the all-star cast as Edwin Stanton.

The series is based on The New York Times non-fiction bestseller of the same name, written by James L. Swanson. The conspiracy thriller relays the events following President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination and the hunt for suspect John Wilkes Booth.

Menzies's character is Secretary of War at the time of events, who carries the burden of catching Booth in the aftermath of Lincoln's death.

In two first-look images for Manhunt, Menzies appears as Stanton, the first showing him on horseback alongside his son (13 Reasons Why actor Brandon Flynn). A second shows Stanton conversing with Lincoln's wife Mary, played by Lili Taylor.

Additional teaser photos shows Hamish Linklater as President Lincoln, with actor Anthony Boyle portraying wanted man John Wilkes Booth.

The supporting cast includes Eternals star Patton Oswalt and Will Harrison of Daisy Jones & The Six fame, alongside Lovie Simone, Damian O’Hare, Glenn Morshower and Matt Walsh.

The series has been created by Fargo producer Monica Beletsky, who serves as showrunner and executive producer.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Beletsky praised the performance of leading man Menzies: "He brings a high level of intelligence to a role. [Stanton] was one of the top trial lawyers in the country, and Tobias does it so convincingly that you believe this man has been in the Supreme Court, that he has been sitting with Lincoln."

Beletsky added that to her, Stanton seemed a historical figure who "represents the type of leader I think more of us wish we had," fighting for others' civil rights.

"That was very impressive to me, how ahead of his time he was," she says. "Part of my hope is that he will be someone our audience will admire as well and take inspiration from.”

The first two episodes of Manhunt will be available stream on March 15, with further episodes dropping weekly on Fridays.

Manhunt debuts on Apple TV+ on March 15.
