Classic and modified modern vehicles will hit the streets of downtown Battle Creek Saturday for the inaugural Cruise the Creek drive-in event.

Hosted by the Battle Creek car club AutoModified and originally planned for August, Cruise the Creek was rescheduled due to weather. The free event is from 4 to 9 p.m.

What would have been the 25th annual "Cruise the Gut" event in downtown Battle Creek was canceled this year, with organizer Ron Munster citing "destruction" and other problems during last year's event.

AutoModified then announced it would host its own event, which will allowselect modern vehicles, along with classic vehicles built up to 1997.

No registration is needed to take part. AutoMODIFIED will have volunteers directing drivers at various checkpoints. Organizers recommend people bring lawn chairs to watch vehicles as they cruise through downtown.

The event is receiving support from the Battle Creek Police Department and the Battle Creek Small Business Development Office. A donation box will be on site for St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
