Nov. 19—Although only a junior, the full-field magnitude of what Leo Cronk was able to supply this past boys soccer season for St. Mary's was recognized recently in voting by the Class 3A/2A/1A District 5 coaches as its boys soccer player of the year.

Cronk was one of four Crusaders to secure first-team recognition, with the junior standout scoring 20 goals and recording 15 assists this fall.

St. Mary's leading scorer Jose Mondesi also was named to the first team following a freshman campaign that saw him score 27 goals and dish out 14 assists.

Also on the first team, Chris Kranenburg scored 15 goals and created 20 assists for a Crusaders crew that totaled 84 goals in 16 matches. Fellow junior Konrad Aretz provided strong technical abilities and experience to help St. Mary's limit opponents to 14 goals overall and also earn a first-team nod.

Rafael Hernandez of Lost River was named District 5 boys soccer coach of the year.

In the District 4 girls soccer voting, St. Mary's seniors Katelynn Balsiger and Sadie Glaser and Cascade Christian senior Autumn Murray were all named to the first team.

Balsiger averaged about 12 saves per game and had one assist as a goalkeeper, while Glaser was a driving force on the Crusaders' defense and also contributed two assists.

Murray, a senior midfielder, played a pivotal role in the Challengers' ability to control possession and was a key distributor. Murray finished with 10 goals and four assists.
