Crusaders repeat as state cross country champs

Nov. 2—The South Aiken Baptist boys' cross country team saved its best performance of the season for the meet that mattered most, repeating as SCISA Class A state champions this past Saturday.

The Crusaders turned in personal and season bests across the board to earn 48 points, edging out Cross Schools (55 points) to win the title again.

South Aiken Baptist placed three runners in the top seven, led by sophomore Patrick Kaufelds with a personal-best time of 17:40.33 to win the individual championship by 4.45 seconds.

Kyle Kaufelds also had a personal best to finish fourth in 18:03.72, and Sterling Osbon took seventh with a season-best time of 18:45.89.

Fellow senior and team captain Nicholas Erwin also set a new personal best with a time of 19:54.51 to finish in 18th and earn 17 points. Freshman Sam Terlizzi rounded out the scoring with a personal best of his own, finishing 25th and earning 21 points with his time of 20:08.40.

Junior Aiden Ferrick (21:50.45) and freshman Drew McKinney (23:03.56) also set personal bests.

Senior Natalie Gregory ran as an individual in the girls' championship race and also set a new personal record, finishing 15th in a time of 24:46.77.
