Crypto market cap falls from nearly $3 trillion to $890 billion

BRIAN SOZZI: If you're wondering why the crypto crash hasn't bled the stocks, consider this fun fact from the team over at Citi. Total crypto market cap is relatively small, standing at about $890 billion down from its peak of almost $3 trillion. This puts crypto at roughly 2% of the US equity market at about $41 trillion. So a little perspective here on that crypto crash.

Shares of Brazil's Petrobras plunged 8% as markets opened on Wednesday, after the state-run oil firm said its chief executive would step down, to be replaced by a former regulator with views closer those of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Industry analysts expressed concern, as CEO Jean Paul Prates was seen as balancing the market demands for disciplined capital spending and healthy dividends with political demands to stabilize fuel prices and invest in job-creating sectors. "It was unnecessary, because Jean Paul Prates was doing a very reasonable job," said Frederico Nobre, chief equities analyst at Warren Investimentos.

The 35-year-old Bank of America investment banker who died from a blood clot earlier this month wanted to leave the U.S. bank because he was working more than 100 hours a week, according to an executive recruiter who spoke with him about seeking a new job. Junior banker Leo Lukenas III died of an acute coronary artery thrombus, a type of blood clot, the New York Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said last week. Lukenas said in mid-March that he wanted to leave Bank of America because of the grueling hours, Douglas Walters, a managing partner at GrayFox Recruitment, told Reuters in an interview.
