Crystal Gayle Shares Never-Before-Seen Photos of a Young Loretta Lynn as She Pays Tribute to Her Sister

Country music mourns the loss of one of its greats. Loretta Lynn, a pioneer of the industry, died at the age of 90. Her family confirmed the news with a message to her fans: "Our precious mom, Loretta Lynn, passed away peacefully this morning, October 4th, in her sleep at home at her beloved ranch in Hurricane Mills."

Loretta was famously born as a coal miner's daughter in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky. She had seven siblings: Melvin, Herman, Willie "Jay" Lee, Donald, Peggy Sue, Betty, and Crystal Gayle. She was the second oldest, and 71-year-old Crystal was the youngest. Both Crystal and Peggy Sue had careers in the music industry.

A star in her own right, Crystal has won a Grammy and five ACM Awards, among many other accolades. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was named as one of the top 40 greatest women of country music by CMT. Her most famous song, "Don't Make My Brown Eyes Blue," topped the Billboard Country Chart in 1977 and crossed over to hit the top 5 in the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.

The singer shared an emotional tribute to her sister with her fans on social media. Crystal shared a series of family photos and wrote, "The world lost a legend. We lost a sister. Love you Loretta❤️." Fans flooded her with condolences, prayers, and messages of support.
