Crystal shop moves to Main Street

Nov. 14—GOSHEN — A metaphysical shop based in Goshen is finally spreading its wings, moving to Main Street. Hive of Light, 119 S. Main St., opens its new doors on Tuesday.

The project began about two years ago when Debi Cooper began selling crystals, candles, and artwork in the family's garage on the north end of the city on Wilden Avenue. From there, they moved to the box room behind TG Music, and then to a small location along Art Alley. Finally, the couple moved operations over the weekend into their Main Street storefront.

"We're supported by the community and people travel from all over to come here," Debi Cooper said. "Some people even just stumble in off the sidewalk and find us here."

Hive of Light sells art by Josh and Debi Cooper (DJ Creations), including paintings, jewelry, art, and intention candles as well as a prolific collection of crystals.

When Debi and Josh got together, his artwork fit in well with her own passions, so they combined forces.

"It's the melding of what we both love," she said.

Debi said her training as a Reiki master is what led her to a passion for crystals. At her shop, she offers Reiki sessions, Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique hypnosis, and holistic life coaching.

"I always dreamed of having a crystal shop, just to kind of spread the knowledge of energy and how crystals influence the body and how to balance the body and things like that," she said.

The bread and butter of the physical shop though, is the crystals and art.

"Everything in here other than the tumbles, Debi hand picks from different vendors all around the world," Josh Cooper said. The family also takes family trips and mines some minerals themselves.

"We're just beginning," Debi said. They haven't started tumbling their own stones yet, but Debi said it's on the agenda.

The store boasts dozens of types including hard-to-find or unique varieties such as sulfur, grape agate, UV react sodalite, and moldavite.

"It's cool because people that don't necessarily believe in the energy aspect, they still come in because of the minerals and they love mining and all of those sorts of things," Debi said. "It's neat having a place where not everybody has to believe the same thing to come in and enjoy it."

They keep a flashlight on hand for customers who want to check out the UV-reactive crystals or see how light affects other types of crystals. Debi said she has crystals that they also didn't realize were UV-reactive until they tried it.

"It's neat seeing that unfold within people," Debi said," becoming more and more into it."

Classes, art get-togethers, and guided meditations aren't available yet, but the Coopers are preparing a list of interested individuals.

Hive of Light is open 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. First Fridays the shop is open until 10 p.m.
