CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is reportedly putting together its cast for a potential revival of the procedural crime drama.

The show was first rumoured to be making a return in February when Deadline reported that CBS was considering a new run of the show to mark the 20th anniversary of its premiere (yes, it really has been that long).

It has now been reported by TVLine that two of the show's biggest original stars William Petersen and Jorja Fox, who played Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle respectively, are in advanced talks to reprise their famous roles for the new episodes.

They will apparently star alongside a new cast of characters, with no word on whether other previous cast members such as Marg Helgenberger, George Eads and Eric Szmanda could also return.

The project will reportedly be written by Elementary producer Jason Tracey and will be set in Las Vegas.

There is no word on potential plots for the new series but if it follows the pattern of the original there will be plenty of mysterious deaths for the characters to solve and a few personal dramas for the characters thrown in.

The series has not yet been officially confirmed by CBS and they have not yet commented on its status.

The original CSI, which ran between 2000 and 2015, also sparked three spin-offs – CSI: Miami, CSI: NY and CSI: Cyber – all of which have now come to an end.
