Update (11/02/2022): And she's (officially) back! TVLine has confirmed that Marg Helgenbergern will be returning to CSI: Vegas and has now signed on the dotted line.

One thing we're still not sure about just though? If she'll be back as a series regular or more in a guest starring role as CBS is yet to officially confirm the capacity in which she's returning.

Original story (04/02/2022): Marg Helgenberger is in early talks to reprise her role on CSI: Vegas after two franchise stalwarts confirmed their exit from the show.

Although CSI veterans William Petersen and Jorja Fox are leaving the CBS show ahead of season 2, Helgenberger, 63, might return as Catherine Willows (via TV Line).

Helgenberger starred in the first 12 seasons of the original CSI and returned briefly in the series' 14th and final season to commemorate the show's 300th episode. In 2010, she announced her exit from CSI after ten years.

At the time, the actress told TV Guide: "I asked to do less episodes, so I am doing only 19. CBS wanted me to stay longer, but it was on terms I didn't find agreeable.

"I wanted to do 13 [episodes] and be finished by Christmas, but they wouldn't go for it. I'm thinking of this as my last 19 episodes."

The star also revealed she accepted a pay cut from the network in 2010. But 12 years later, CBS is on the verge of bringing her back.

CSI: Vegas, a revival of the original CSI series, was renewed for a second season without William Petersen, whose deal to reprise his role as Gil Grissom was only for one season. Shortly after, Fox said she would not return as Sara Sidle, reports TheWrap.

Posting to Twitter last month, Fox wrote: "Hey all you #CSI fans! After much deliberating, I have decided not to ‘Sidle up’ for CSI Vegas. For me CSI has always been a love story. The story that people can find love in the darkest of places and times."

Her tweet continued: "And the story that love, even in the darkest of places and times, can expand and grow roots and endure. I personally just can't split Sara and Grissom up again. So goes Grissom…..So goes Sara. Wherever they go, they belong together."

More recently, Helgenberger starred in the first two seasons of the CBS legal drama All Rise, which is moving over to OWN for its third season.

CSI: Vegas airs on CBS in the US. No UK broadcaster has been announced yet.
