The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association (CSOA) announced late Monday that the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performance with music director Riccardo Muti scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday has been canceled. This was to be the third and final performance of the program featuring works by Mazzoli, Mahler and Bruckner.

According to the CSOA, the decision to cancel the performance comes after a positive COVID-19 test result Monday for Muti, who has been testing daily in accordance with CSOA safety protocols. Muti also will be unable to lead upcoming CSO performances on April 7, 8, 9 and 12, but the orchestra and pianist Leif Ove Andsnes are expected to perform on these dates, with updated program information available soon.

Also according to the announcement, Muti is experiencing mild symptoms, “is in good spirits” and may be able to resume some of his other activities before his current residency concludes on April 12. “I hope to be back as soon as possible and am looking forward to once again sharing music with the public in Chicago,” he said in the statement.

Ticket-holders for canceled concerts can exchange tickets for future concerts, return their tickets and put the money on account, or converting the value of their tickets into a tax-deductible contribution. More information is available from Symphony Center patron services at 312-294-3000 and at cso.org.
