CT event is a chance to sample unique creative burgers – think vying for ‘people’s choice’

Blue Back Square in West Hartford will hold its first annual “burger bash” Thursday, Sept. 28 to benefit Connecticut Foodshare.

For a $10 donation and the chance to win a $250 gift card, guests will sample several signature slider-sized hamburgers and cheeseburgers in an outdoor area.

The event is to be held from 5 to 7 p.m. and pre-registration is required.

“It’s going to be a fun grill out,” said Elizabeth Zigmont, spokesperson for Blue Back Square.

She said they are happy to support CT Foodshare, which supports those in need.

All full-service restaurants at Blue Back Square, including Gran Gusto, Rosa Mexicano, The Place 2 Be, Vinted, and World of Beer, will present their own signature slider burger, in hopes of winning the big one, “People’s Choice for Best Burger.”

Guests will get a “passport” to visit the sites outside.

Julie Nosal, manager of Rosa Mexicano, said their burger – still being tweaked as of Friday – will have a Mexican flair.

So far their burger is topped with American cheese, guacamole, pickled jalapenos, chipotle aioli.

“We think it’s fantastic,” Nosal said. “Everyone brings to the table a unique burger.”

Zigmont said some others include a brunch burger topped with with fried egg, avocado, lettuce, tomato onion and another topped with brisket, Applewood bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion on a brioche bun.

Kilwins will pass out free samples of their mini waffle hot fudge sundae.

Celebrity judges will be onsite to vote for other categories including “Most Creative” and “Best Overall.”

Voting guests will be entered into a drawing to receive a $250 gift card to the restaurant of their choice.
