CT Reports Nearly 5,300 Coronavirus Cases Over Weekend

CONNECTICUT — Some of Connecticut’s coronavirus metrics looked slightly better over the weekend with a lower positive test rate and a slowdown in hospitalizations, but the state still reported more than 5,300 new cases and 43 deaths.

The state also surpassed 3 million total coronavirus test results after more than 200,000 were conducted in the past week. It took Connecticut from March until mid-August to hit its first million coronavirus tests and only one month to get from 2 million to 3 million tests.

Long wait times for tests have become common. Gov. Ned Lamont asked residents to volunteer to help either administer tests if they have medical experience or to volunteer to help with the registration process.

The state’s coronavirus death toll is 4,871.

The weekend positive test rate was 4.8 percent, which was less than recent reports. Lamont said he expects the daily number to ebb and flow, but grow over the long term.

Net coronavirus hospitalizations grew by 27 patients up to 875, which was a slower rise than what was seen over the past week.
