CT Weather: 2-Day Rain, Wind Storm Forecast On Friday, Saturday

CONNECTICUT — The weather forecast for Thursday is essentially flawless, with high temperatures around 70 degrees and an abundance of sunshine. But what is on the horizon isn't so pleasant.

WTNH News 8 chief meteorologist Gil Simmons wrote on his social media that "Get out there (Thursday) because our weather goes to yucky tomorrow-Saturday." He added that an "ocean Storm wants to ruin Friday & Saturday." (Read the full WTNH News 8 weather forecast here).

The National Weather Service said clouds will increase Thursday night as a "storm system" approaches.

"An extended period of rain is expected from Friday through Saturday ... as a cut-off low aloft meanders toward the mid-Atlantic Coast," the weather service explained. "The surface low associated with the upper low will decay as it also approaches the coast. However, a secondary low will develop off the mid-Atlantic coast by Saturday evening."

Rain should begin in western Connecticut Friday morning, the weather service said. The storm is a slow-mover, and some areas in eastern Connecticut won't see rain until Friday afternoon. The closer to the coast you are, the more rain you're expected to receive, the weather service said.

"In any case, a period of moderate to briefly heavy rain is possible Friday night," the weather service said. "Due to the increase in pressure gradient, winds will be on the increase as well. A sustained wind out of the NE will increase late Friday night into Saturday morning...Therefore, conditions will become breezy on Saturday, with winds of 15-25 mph and gusts of around 30-35 mph. Again, highest winds will be for southern areas."

There is a slight chance of coastal flooding due to the wind gusts, the weather service said. Mother's Day looks much better with sunshine and temperatures around 60 degrees.
