CT Weather: New Updates On Powerful Weekend Nor'easter Impacts

CONNECTICUT — The most talked about storm in a long time remains a mystery concerning what impacts Connecticut may see.

On social media, WTNH News 8 chief meteorologist Gil Simmons summed up the current situation best by saying, "Still a split in model solutions for Saturday! Euro would be a “shut the state down” & GFS gives us a fringe storm scenario."

The National Weather Service said for southern Connecticut, "There is increasing potential for a low pressure storm system to bring heavy snowfall and high winds to portions of the area Friday night into Saturday night. Uncertainties remain with the track and intensity of the storm system and its resulting potential impacts."

And for northern Connecticut, the weather service said, "A winter storm is expected on Saturday. Heavy snow, strong winds, coastal flooding and dangerous seas are possible. Storm track and intensity will determine the exact impacts."

The weather service adds that "The uncertainties include where highest snow amounts will be, how fast the snowfall amounts taper off or the gradient of the snow, the duration of snow and the highest wind gusts. This will all be tied to the track of the low and how amplified the pattern is aloft."

And as Simmons indicated above, different computer models are forecasting different outcomes for Connecticut.

"Farther offshore track of the low will decrease snow amounts while a track closer to shore will increase snow amounts and if the low gets close enough to the coast, a wintry mix will be possible for some eastern coastal sections (This is looking less and less likely)," the weather service said Wednesday.

So because of all of the above reasons, no one is making snow accumulation estimates for the entire storm yet. But the National Weather Service has released initial estimates for Friday night, which you can view below, but the bulk of the storm would be on Saturday and no snow estimates have released yet for then. We'll continue to update this story once more information is available.
