CT Woman of the Year honored by Norwich community for starting anti-bullying initiative

On Saturday, the Norwich community came out to honor Deb Kievits for her winning the USA Today Woman of the Year Award for Connecticut. This award recognized her work running the Norwich Bully Busters, an anti-bullying organization for local children operating for over two decades.

Several people came to speak at the event and fundraiser, ranging from Kievits' siblings to elected officials and other community leaders. When state Sen. Cathy Osten spoke, she reflected that Kievits is a good role model and is someone who can get politicians to pay attention.

"Is there a woman that deserves Woman of the Year more than Deb Keivits?" Osten asked.

"No!" The audience shouted back.

Between Bully Busters' activities that help prevent bullying, introduce kids to different careers, and give them safe experiences, Kievits is always learning from the children, and putting in the extra effort to help them.

"I don't want to be part of a world where we give up on 10, 11, 12 year olds," she said.
