Yu Darvish doesn’t like to discuss his chances of winning the National League Cy Young Award, but the Chicago Cubs ace will get another chance to strengthen his case Sunday night against the Minnesota Twins at Wrigley Field.
Darvish is 7-2 with a 1.86 ERA in 10 starts. He ranks first in the NL with nine quality starts, tied for first in wins, third in ERA and strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.58), fifth in WHIP (0.94), tied for fifth in strikeouts (79), sixth in opponents’ OPS (.557) and ninth in opponents’ average (.205).
Darvish is 5-2 with a 2.16 ERA in eight starts at Wrigley Field.
Javier Baez will bat seventh for the first time this season.
Since hitting two home runs in a win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sept. 23, leadoff hitter Ian Happ is batting .143 (7-for-49) with two extra-base hits to lower his average from .317 to .269.
