Cudahy bakery donating 100% of daily sales on Feb. 16 to family of fallen Milwaukee police officer Peter Jerving

A Cudahy bakery known for giving back and supporting first responders will be hosting a fundraiser to honor the family of Peter Jerving, a Milwaukee police officer who was shot and killed Tuesday while trying to arrest a robbery suspect on the south side.

Jen's Sweet Treats will be donating 100% of its daily sales on Feb. 16 to Jerving's family, a Wednesday post on the business' Facebook page said. The bakery, 4745 S. Packard Avenue, will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. that day.

"(The officer's) family is struck with tragedy and they just need to know that somebody cares about them," owner Jen Clark told the Journal Sentinel. "I'm sure that they can use some money in these hard times."

On the day of the fundraiser, the bakery will be stocked with its usual offerings, including cookies, cupcakes, turnovers, brownies, doughnuts, muffins, candy, soups, salads and more, Clark said.

Boxes of dozen-count variety cupcakes can be pre-ordered for $42 each by calling 414-940-0532.

Early Tuesday morning, two officers chased after robbery suspect Terrell I. Thompson, 19, and exchanged gunfire with him, Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said. Thompson also died from gunshot wounds, but it was unclear early Tuesday if they were self-inflicted or from the officers, according to the chief.

Hours before the incident, Thompson had been sentenced to probation in a misdemeanor hit-and-run case.

Jen's Sweet Treats has a history of hosting fundraisers for the loved ones of local officers killed in the line of duty, including Milwaukee Police Officers Michael Michalski and Matthew Rittner, and Racine Police Officer John Hetland.

The bakery also raised funds for the family of Milwaukee officer Kou Her, who was off-duty but on his way home from work when a drunk driver crashed into his car, killing him.
