Culinary Union moves strike deadline to Monday for several downtown Las Vegas properties
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – More than 2,000 hospitality workers fighting for a new five-year contract could strike soon if their demands are not met in the coming days.
As of Wednesday afternoon, 10 downtown Las Vegas resorts had yet to come to a new contract agreement, and the strike deadline for those resorts was pushed back to Monday, Feb. 5. The downtown properties include Binion’s, Circa, Downtown Grand, El Cortez, Four Queens, Fremont, Golden Gate, Golden Nugget, Main Street, and The D Casino.
Culinary Union reaches agreement with TI Las Vegas
Three Las Vegas area resorts, which include Rio, Sahara, and Virgin Las Vegas, continue to negotiate a new contract for hospitality workers before the strike deadline, which is set for Friday, Feb. 2.
The Culinary Union will also begin continuous picketing of all unsettled Las Vegas area resorts beginning on Friday at 10 a.m. and will continue through Saturday, Feb. 3 at 10 p.m. The information picket is not a strike but more of a labor demonstration, according to the Culinary Union on Wednesday.
Currently, 2,600 hospitality workers continue to fight for a new five-year contract.
“I am fighting for a living wage, I am fighting for job security and I am fighting for benefits,” Circa employee Satoria Partridge said.
Secretary-Treasurer for the Culinary Union, Ted Pappageorge said in a statement that corporations are making record profits and workers deserve record contracts. Just as Las Vegas Strip workers received in November.

“We are going to fight and take what we are asking for and if it takes a strike, that is what we’ll do and we will strike until we win,” Partridge stated.
A culinary union spokesperson shared with 8 News Now that the average Culinary Union member earns $28 an hour including benefits under the previous contract. A new contract raises it to $37 an hour, including benefits.
Negotiations continued Wednesday with the Golden Nugget, as well as Circa, The D Casino, and the Golden Gate which are under the same ownership. Fremont and Main Street Hotel negotiations are set for Thursday.
