Cullman holds first reading for delinquent tax filings ordinance

Feb. 14—With no public hearings or reports from councilmembers, the city of Cullman kept its bimonthly meeting short and simple Monday, Feb. 12.

Mayor Woody Jacobs said recent wet-weather conditions have allowed for little progress for the city's ongoing paving projects, but the council was able to pave the way for a pair of ordinances set to be approved during next week's scheduled meeting, Monday, Feb. 19. The council held the first reading of a new ordinance outlining the penalties and interest for delinquent tax filings in the Code of Ordinances as well one approving the annual Back-to-School sales tax holiday. The sales tax holiday is scheduled for the third full weekend in July.

Both ordinances will receive a second reading next Monday, after which the council will vote for their approval.

The council also reappointed both Ronnie Easterwood and Allen Green to their current positions on the city's Alcohol Review Committee. Jacobs reappointed Tommy Waldrop as his designated appointee.

In other business the council:

* Approved a special event request from Juliana Phillips for the annual Kaleb's 5K run/walk on April 20 beginning at 7 a.m.

* Approved change order No. 3 for Jim Cooper Construction Company, Inc. to increase the size of the transformer at the OmniPlex Sports Complex and Civic Center.

* Authorized Jacobs to enter into a new lease agreement with J&R Feeds.

* Approved an ordinance regulating mobile food businesses operating inside the city limits.

* Approved the rezoning of Blue Hole, LLC property located at U.S. 278 from AG-2 to AG-1.
