Sep. 17—HIGH POINT — A High Point-based furniture company has raised more than 6.5 tons of supplies to help with earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.
Culp Inc., which manufactures and markets mattress and upholstery fabrics, recently led a communitywide "Hands in for Haiti" donation drive, which began immediately after the Aug. 14 earthquake.
Culp has facilities in Haiti, and while they were far enough away from the earthquake to suffer damage, many of its employees had family members affected by the disaster.
Culp President and CEO Iv Culp said the amount of donations received from High Pointers was "nothing short of amazing."
"Our company is grateful to be a part of the caring community of High Point," Culp said in a press release. "The combined efforts of our Culp employees, the community, and the industry have been remarkable. We want to thank everyone who played a part in this magnificent effort of generosity."
