Culver City Closing Schools Next Week, Citing Omicron Surge
CULVER CITY, CA — Culver City schools will close from Wednesday to Friday next week, citing the rise of positive COVID-19 cases and rapid spread of the omicron variant, district officials announced Friday.
Students were already planning to be off Monday for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Tuesday for a scheduled day off, the district said. Now, school will be canceled from Wednesday through Friday for all CCUSD programs, including the Office of Child Development, K-12 schools and Culver City Adult High School.
The three lost instructional days will be made up at a later time, the district said.
Grab-and-go lunches will still be provided for students at curbside pickup.
The number of COVID-positive patients in Los Angeles County hospitals topped the 4,000 mark, according to the latest data, as the highly contagious Omicron variant continued to fuel a winter surge in infections.
According to state figures, there were 4,175 COVID-19-positive patients in county hospitals as of Thursday, with 586 of them being treated in intensive care. That's up from 3,912 total patients and 536 in the ICU on Wednesday.
The hospital number is the highest it has been since early February 2021.
