Culver's restaurant opens in Greensburg
Jan. 23—GREENSBURG — Culver's Restaurant opened their newest location in the Rural King parking lot in Greensburg on Monday.
A line of butter burger — hungry customers stretched from the new establishment's customer entrance around the building, while cars lined up from the Culver's parking lot to the entrance of the Rural King plaza on N. Broadway Street.
"We started work here in early summer, and the last two weeks we've been cleaning and getting ready for today," Culver's General Manager Regina Morefield said.
According to Morefield, 80 to 90 employees will staff the new restaurant, making the Culver's another reason for tourists to pull off I-74 for a quick bite to eat.
Culver Franchising System, LLC, is an American fast-casual restaurant chain founded in Onalaska, Wisconsin in 1984 by George, Ruth, Craig and Lea Culver. The Culvers opened their first restaurant in a former drive-in root beer stand.
The restaurant introduced a menu that led with "butter burgers" and frozen custard.
The butter burger was invented in 1885 by a Seymour, Wisconsin restaurateur who cooked his burgers with a pat of butter on top. He also spread butter on the top bun. The sandwich remains Culver's lead menu item.
Jeff Miller, a Rushville native and budding entrepreneur, went into business with his brother-in-law Neil Meyer as Meyer Foods.
The pair opened their first Culver's in 2004 on 96th Street in Indianapolis.
Since then, Meyer Foods has expanded to 16 stores in Indiana, Ohio and Georgia.
Culver's hours of business are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends. For more information or to apply for a job, go to www.culvers.com/careers.
