Cumberland County Sheriff’s office warns residents of phone scam

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — The Cumberland County Sheriff’s office is warning the public about an ongoing phone scam in which residents are being told they have unpaid citations.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the scammers are claiming to be the Deputy Crown asking for payment for the citation.

The scam caller is also telling residents to call the phone number 717-539-6890 — which is not in any way affiliated with Deputy Crown or the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents that the office and its deputies will never ask for money to be paid over the phone for any reason.
