SILVER SPRING TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) — After intense backlash — both locally and nationally — the Cumberland Valley School board is meeting to discuss their decision to cancel an assembly featuring “30 Rock” star, Maulik Pancholy.

The “special meeting” is being held at Cumberland Valley High School’s Performing Arts Center at 5 p.m. with a ton of expected public comment.

The anti-bullying assembly was supposed to be held by Pancholy on May 22.

Since then, Superintendent Mark Blanchard, along with other members of the district’s administration, wrote a letter to faculty and staff expressing their disappointment with the board.

Parents have also come out in full force on both sides of the issue.

A petition created to convince the board to reverse the decision now has more than 9,000 signatures.

As for tonight’s meeting, a description says it’s for “the purpose of discussing and deliberating agency business and taking official action as may be deemed appropriate by the board of school directors.”

There’s no word what that official action could be.

One parent who has been extremely vocal says comments made at the meeting on April 15 were homophobic.

“I’m very concerned about the future of our district. This is just, this is so much more than an assembly. It’s unprecedented for board members to get involved in the inner workings of a building. It’s just a basic assembly when we’re bringing an author in, that’s something we do all the time,” Trisha Comstock, a mother of two Cumberland Valley District students said.
