Cuomo made it clear that he doesn’t trust the current iteration of the FDA or CDC

Gov. Andrew Cuomo kicked off this week by making it clear that his distrust of the Trump administration runs so deep that even if a COVID-19 vaccine was released, he would only allow it to be distributed in New York after his own “task force” of doctors vetted its safety.

Monday, during an interview with Good Morning America, the governor made it clear that he doesn’t trust the current iteration of the FDA or CDC, and believes that the American public in general should be “skeptical” about a vaccine coming from a federal administration that has mishandled the pandemic from the start.

While it remains unclear if Cuomo will have the power to stop a vaccine from being administered across the state once the FDA approves it, he’s adamant that he will do everything in his power to stand in the way as a safeguard between his community and anything coming from Trump’s camp.

“The Task Force will advise on the vaccine safety profile, legal authority to withhold vaccine, and clinical best practices if New York State must withhold or pause distribution of the vaccine,” reads a plan his office released on Sunday.

“Once New York’s independent Clinical Advisory Task Force has advised that a COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective, the vaccine will be distributed and administered throughout New York State.”

“I’m not that confident [in the CDC] but my opinion doesn’t matter,” Cuomo said during this week’s appearance. “You’re going to say, ‘here’s a vaccine it was new, done quickly but trust this administration that it’s safe?’

“I believe all across the country, you’re going to need someone other than this FDA and CDC saying it’s safe,” he concluded.
