Cupid’s Chase 5K, Fun Run on Feb. 12

The 27th annual Cupid’s Chase 5K and Fun Run will begin at 8 a.m. Feb. 12 in San Gabriel Park, 445 E. Morrow St.

The chip-timed 5K run/walk will begin and end in the park. Registration for the 5K will cost $30 per person ages 11 and older through Jan. 25. Registration for the Kids Fun Run for ages 10 and younger will start at 7:30 a.m. and costs $10.

Participants who register before Jan. 25 are guaranteed to receive a Cupid’s Chase T-shirt. Cupid costumes are encouraged. Strollers and dogs on a non-retractable leash are welcome on the Cupid’s Chase course.

Awards will be presented to the top overall male and female winners, the overall male and female masters winners and the top three male and female finishers in each age division. Awards also will be presented to the top overall male and female city of Georgetown employees.

Race results will be posted after the race at cupid.georgetown.org. In case of bad weather on race day, residents can check facebook.com/GTXParksandRec and parks.georgetown.org for updates. There are no refunds or transfers for participants.

Volunteer to be watershed monitor

The Plum Creek Watershed Partnership announced upcoming group meetings.

The Plum Creek Stewards will have upcoming training events Jan. 23, Feb. 20 and March 20. The citizen science water quality monitoring group is seeking volunteers to test sites throughout the Plum Creek Watershed on a monthly basis. The water quality data are added to the state-wide Texas Stream Team Datamap at bit.ly/3nnAYN0.

To become a certified monitor, a three-hour training is required. After training, the time commitment is about one to two hours per month. For interest: clopez@plumcreekwatershed.org.

The Plum Creek Page Turners will meet at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at Lockhart Arts and Craft, 113 A N. Main St. The first half of “Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants” will be discussed. To RSVP: clopez@plumcreekwatershed.org.
