Cupid comes early to Erie as Valentine's Day celebrations start Friday

Blasco Library

Sweetheart of a (book) Sale: The Friends of the Library's Bayfront Bookshelf will host a used book sale this weekend in the Admiral Room of the Blasco Library, 160 E. Front St. The sale will take place this Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This sale will feature paperback books of many genres, including romance and fiction. DVDs, children's books, electronic media, large print books and puzzles will also be for sale.

Glass Growers Gallery

Photography workshop: Glass Growers Gallery, 10 E. Fifth St., Saturday, 3 to 5 p.m. Erie-based artist Brandon Borgia will share techniques for shooting and editing photographs using smartphone cameras and crystal balls. Participants will shoot imagery in and around Glass Growers Gallery. Each participant will go home with a small crystal ball they can use to take their own photographs. City Gallery

DivinelyCROWN’D presents a Lovers & Friends Soirée: The Valentine-themed social mixer for both couples and single attendees will take place at the City Gallery, 1503 State St., Saturday, 7 to 11 p.m. Dress to impress. Tickets run $60 to $200 includes light hors d'oeuvres, cash bar and more, given ticket choice. Guests get two free drink tickets. Features include a DJ, photo booth and more. Erie Runners Club

Erie Runners Club hosts its annual Valentine Prediction Run, in which it's not necessarily the fastest runner who wins but the one who comes closest to predicting his or her time. It takes place Sunday at 10 a.m. and costs $20 to enter. The course will be at least four miles but no more than six miles. Those participants closest to their predicted pace will receive their choice from a delicious selection of chocolate and candy awards. Flagship City Food Hall

Valentine's Day at Flagship City Food Hall: Families welcome to the Flagship City Food Hall on Tuesday, noon to 3 p.m., for cookie decorating, valentine crafting and more. Free. Valentine decorating takes place at Perry's Tavern, located inside the Flagship City Food Hall. Live music will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Perry's Tavern. PACA

The Performing Artists Collective Alliance, 1505 State St., second floor, is presenting "Love Letters," by A.R. Gurney on Tuesday (Valentine's Day) with a reception at 6 p.m. and curtain time of 7:30 p.m. Admission is $80 per couple and $45 for singles. The reception is sponsored by Mazza Winery, Lavery Brewing Co., Blind Tiger and Make It Fabulous catering. Hot and cold hors d'oeuvres will be provided. The event is a fundraiser for PACA, with proceeds going to new doors for the main entrance to the building.

The one-night-only play, staring Sue Lechner and Charlie Corritore, examines shared nostalgia, missed opportunities and the closeness of two lifelong friends over a span of five decades.
