HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm will come to an end with its upcoming 12th season, it's been confirmed.

The news was announced by the long-running comedy's creator and star Larry David, who plays a fictionalised version of himself as he navigates life in Los Angeles alongside a mix of recurring and guest characters.

"As Curb comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this 'Larry David' persona and become the person God intended me to be – the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character," he said in a statement (via Deadline).

The Seinfeld co-creator continued: "And so, 'Larry David,' I bid you farewell. Your misanthropy will not be missed.

"And for those of you who would like to get in touch with me, you can reach me at Doctors Without Borders."

Last month, HBO boss Casey Bloys revealed that the show's 12th and final season was set to arrive in February 2024, and we've now been given an exact premiere date of February 4, with the finale due on April 7.

Curb Your Enthusiasm's first season, which was developed from a 1999 one-hour special titled Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm, premiered in 2000.

The show also stars Cheryl Hines as Larry's ex-wife, Jeff Garlin as his manager and best friend, Susie Essman as Jeff's wife, and JB Smoove as Larry's housemate.

Plenty of other famous faces have made guest appearances, including the likes of Martin Scorsese, Ben Stiller, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ricky Gervais and David Schwimmer.

Concerns over the future of Curb Your Enthusiasm came earlier this year after producer Jon Hayman hinted that season 12 would be its last. Although executive producer Jeff Schaffer later said that reports of the show's end had been exaggerated, it appears Hayman was right all along.

Curb Your Enthusiasm will return on HBO in the US on February 4, 2024. The show airs on Sky and NOW in the UK.
