“The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time,” Mark Haddon’s best-selling novel about a 15-year-old boy with Asperger’s syndrome, was a Broadway hit and the troupe from Curtain Call Theatre will present the emotionally powerful show May 13-22 on its Braintree stage.

Toni Ruscio, a professor at Bridgewater State University and Massasoit Community College, directs a cast of 10, which features actors from across the region.

The five-time Tony-winning production begins with the discovery by Christopher Boone of a dog killed with a pitchfork. From there, the storyline moves with more twists than a pretzel. Christopher has some personality quirks, for example: He hates the color yellow, doesn't like being touched and, while he knows every prime number up to 7,057, he is unable to understand human emotions. When a neighborhood dog gets murdered, Christopher thinks it's his job to solve the mystery, and that leads to the unraveling of some of his own secrets.

"It's a story about differences. It’s a story about sameness. It’s a story about acceptance. It’s about you. It’s about me,” said Ruscio, Curtain Call's artistic director.

Ruscio is a graduate of Boston University and Emerson College. She said this production, which closes the theater's 60th anniversary season is "particularly special."
