Current, former Harrisburg Senators invited to Major League Spring Training

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – The Washington Nationals announced the list of their prospects invited to Major League Spring Training on Tuesday with seven former Harrisburg Senators making the cut.

Outfielders Dylan Crews, Robert Hassell III, and James Wood, as well as infielders Darren Baker, Brady House, and Trey Lipscomb, will all be taking part in their first Major League Spring Training. Catcher Brady Lindsly was also invited.

Crews is the No. 5 overall prospect in baseball and Washington’s top prospect after being taken No. 2 overall in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft. Between the FCL Nationals, Single-A Fredricksburg and Harrisburg Crews posted a .292 batting average with nine doubles, five home runs, 29 RBI, 14 walks, four stolen bases and 26 runs scored.

Hassell III was acquired by Washington in 2022 and the 22-year-old ranks as the No. 7 prospect for the organization. Between Fredricksburg and Harrisburg in 2023 Hassell played in 121 games, hitting .221 with a .324 on-base percentage, 16 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 41 RBI, 68 walks, 15 stolen bases and 66 runs scored.

Wood is the No. 2 Washington prospect and was the organization’s Minor League Hitter of the Year in 2022 and 2023. This past season, Wood led Washington in home runs (26), RBI (91) and slugging percentage (.520). Wood ranked second in OPS (.873), doubles (28) and triples (8). Wood represented the Nationals at the 2023 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game and set career bests in almost every category while with Wilmington and Harrisburg.

Baker finished in the top 10 for multiple stats among Nationals Minor League players in 2023. Baker was chosen in the 10th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft from the University of California – Berkeley.

House is the No. 3 Nationals prospect and the No. 55 overall prospect. House finished the season at the top of Washington’s system in average (.312) and ranked in the top 8 for slugging percentage, OPS, on-base percentage, extra-base hits, home runs, hits and doubles.

Lipscomb led Washington’s minor leaguers with 139 hits and 29 doubles, ranking fourth in average, home runs and RBI in his first complete professional campaign. Lipscomb was tabbed Washington’s 2023 Minor League Defensive Player of the Year and won the Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove Award for third basemen.

Lindsly will be appearing in his second Major League Spring Training following a non-roster invitation in 2023. The 25-year-old played in 62 games last season between Rochester and Harrisburg, hitting .234 with six doubles, six home runs, 33 RBI, 30 walks, four stolen bases and 27 runs scored.

Spring training starts on Feb. 22 with the Nationals playing their first spring training game on Feb. 24 against the Houston Astros.
