Sioux Falls issues snow alert; Lincoln County no travel alert: Current road conditions and travel alerts as winter storm continues

The City of Sioux Falls has issued a snow alert beginning at 4:30 p.m. Friday as snow continues to fall in town. Any cars parked in the street may be ticketed or towed as snow plows clear emergency routes and streets.

Here's what you need to know about current road conditions and travel alerts for the area.

Travel alerts:

A no travel alert has been issued for Lincoln County, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff's office. County plows have been pulled off the roadways and state plows are being pulled at 8 p.m..

A snow alert has been issued for Sioux Falls and plowing will continue throughout Friday and into Saturday.

Zone 3 plowing will begin after midnight on Saturday, Zone 2 plowing of north and south streets will start around 8 a.m. Saturday while east and west streets will be plowed starting around 8 p.m. Saturday, according to the city. Zone 1 snow removal will begin on Sunday.

The Sioux Falls Police Department is recommending people only travel if necessary as road conditions are expected to get worse during the afternoon and into the evening.

From Brookings to Sioux Falls:

  • from I-229-Sioux Falls Exit 75 to SD-115-Dell Rapids Exit 98: Scattered slippery spots and visibility of less than a quarter mile.

  • from SD-115-Dell Rapids Exit 98 to 6 miles south of SD-324-Exit 127: Slippery and snow covered with visibility of less than a half mile.

  • from 6 miles south of SD-324-Exit 127 to US 14-Brookings Exit 132: packed snow and slippery.

From Sioux Falls to the Iowa border:

  • from Iowa State Line to US 18 West-Exit 59: Slippery and snow covered with visibility less than a half mile.

  • from US 18 West-Exit 59 to I-229-Sioux Falls Exit 75: Slippery and snow covered with visibility less than a quarter mile.

Along I-90 from Mitchell to the Minnesota border:

  • from SD-37 South-Mitchell Exit 332 to SD-262-Alexandria Exit 344: Slippery and snow covered with visibility of less than a half mile.

  • from SD-262-Alexandria Exit 344 to SD-19-Humboldt: Slippery and snow covered with visibility of less than a half mile.

  • from SD-19-Humboldt to Minnesota State Line: Scattered slippery spots and visibility of less than a quarter of a mile.
