Curry chamber gives guitar award to local Norteño band

Jan. 21—The Clovis-Curry County Chamber of Commerce on Friday acknowledged one of area's noteworthy families with the presentation of a Chamber guitar award to the Norteño band Los Huracanes Del Norte.

As the summer was coming to an end the group, which makes its home at a hacienda located between Clovis and Portales, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in California.

About 400 people attended the banquet at the Curry County Events Center.

The Chamber's Heart Award went to Steve and Pauline Reshetar of the Matt 25 Center.

Amy Egbert was given the Ambassador of the Year Award.

Jay Fisher was awarded the Chamber Volunteer of the Year award. Fisher has been working on the vintage analog equipment in the Chamber's rock 'n' roll museum.

The Ken Huey Patriot Award was presented to Sarah and Justin Stagner for their work in support of military personnel at Cannon Air Force Base.

The Business of the Year award went to Juanito's Mexican Restaurant.

Former Clovis City Commissioner and Curry County Commissioner Robert Sandoval was honored with the Chamber's Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Cannon Community Partner Award for the first time includes an active-duty military member, Col. Terence Taylor and Maria Taylor.

The 2022 Citizen of the Year Award went to Lee Malloy.

In her goodbye speech, past president Robyn Snowberger announced Uncle Kracker and The Eli Young Band will be at this year's Clovis Music Festival.

Malloy joined with Snowberger to announce that the 35,000 square foot building near Clovis Community College — recently gifted to Clovis Economic Development (CED) — will be named "The Gentry" after the late Chase Gentry.

The Chamber's 2023 president was also announced at the banquet: Marli Raney.
