Cushnie et Ochs carves collection for model types

NEW YORK (AP) — Sleek and slim is nothing new for Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs, but throw in all the cutouts, harnesses and bra tops in their spring collection presented Friday at New York Fashion Week and it might cause a craze for crunches, even among their model-like customers.

The clothes were fresh, chic and cool — in a ladylike way — but, again, all that skin would make them hard to wear for the masses. The Cushnie et Ochs label is really for starlet types, anyway.

They are the people who know how to wear white bikinis with a jeweled halter neckline and an asymmetrical bandage dress. At least they are really nice to look at.

The design duo did hit on an early trend emerging during these previews of next season's styles: sporty silhouettes made of plyable neoprene and viscose, and the continuing interest in an upscale motorcycle look.

The quick glimpse of a snakeskin-style leather bra under a cape-sleeve jacket and a flared skirt also seemed a nod to the lingerie vibe coming from the catwalks.
